Chapter 3 - Mongo's Mission

Time seemed to stand still for Neflite as he kept telling Molly to hang on. After Darien had called an Ambulance, everyone waited in horror for them to show. To Neflite it seemed it took the Ambulance hours but it was only minutes. When the ambulance arrived, they were able to stabilize Molly in moments and get her into the van. Neflite would have gone alone but Sailor Moon insisted on Zoisite going as well.

When the ambulance sped away, it didn't take the scouts too long to get the guests out the mansion and themselves on their way to the hospital. When the scouts arrived at the hospital, in normal form, they found Zoisite and Neflite waiting in the lobby of the emergency room.

From the look on the scouts' face Zoisite knew what they were going to ask. He approached them, away from Neflite. "Molly was taken to emergency surgery. And the doctors say the baby may not make it."

"Poor Molly," Serena sobbed. She looked over to Neflite and started towards him but Zoisite grabbed her arm.

"Princess, I don't even want to go near him. It's not a good idea," Zoisite protested.

"Zoisite, Molly's my friend. Neflite needs someone. I can understand if he lashes out at anyone who comes near him but I know he won't lash out at me."

Zoisite felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see Darien. With a silent nod from Darien, Zoisite released Serena and she went over to Neflite.

"Neflite," Serena said cautiously.

Neflite turned to the sound of the voice, tears coming down his face. "Get away from me!" he growled.

"No," Serena said sternly. Tears were clearly still in her eyes. "You're hurting. You need a friend. Being alone is probably what you did when you were our enemy but you are not anymore. You are basically family and family doesn't shut out family."

Neflite looked straight in her eyes and saw the warmth from them. "She may lose the baby." "I know," Serena whispered. Her voice started to crack and she knew she would not be able to speak anymore. She saw Neflite was about to break down again. She swiftly sat down beside him and wrapped her arms around him.

Zoisite watched in amazement how the Princess was able to get close to Neflite. "Even to this day, she still amazes me," he said dryly.

"Yes, and that is one of the things that I love about her," Darien said. "When I'm in a dark mood, she is my sunlight."

"Yeah, I can see why," Zoisite said. "The hard part of this is there is nothing we can do about it." He watched as Neflite and Serena parted from each other and Neflite came over towards him. Zoisite knew that Neflite had heard him.

"Oh yes there is something we can do, rip their damn heads apart," Neflite growled. Upon hearing this, Serena ran over to Neflite. "No!" she said. "It's too dangerous. They would expect you to do something like that."

"They will pay for this!" Neflite hissed.

"Neflite, please," Serena pleaded. "Molly is going to need you when she wakes up. It would be better for you to wait."

"Besides," Jedite said coldly. "We all want to rip the Negaverse from limb to limb. You are not alone. We have to stick together. Queen Beryl will expect you to try and go after her, and in your condition..."

Neflite glared at Jedite and was about to lunge at him but Serena stepped in the way. "Neflite, enough!" she yelled. "As your leader and friend I want you to come outside with me and get some cool air!"

Serena pulled on his silk shirt and led him in the opposite direction towards the exit. Once outside, Serena led him to a bench and sat down.

"Neflite, I know you are angry. We all are," Serena paused as her voice started to falter. "But Jedite is right. What happened tonight must have been a well-laid plan. A plan they've been working on since your wedding. Remember, we all prevented any of the Negaverse from interrupting that wedding and we let our guard down because of Mina's birthday party."

"They will pay," he growled.

"Yes, all in good time. If we leave Molly unprotected they could go after her and kill her. We don't know if that was their plan from the start or if it was some other reason."

"I know exactly what they were after. They want the unborn child dead!" He looked at Serena with the last statement. "I know how the Negaverse works, they see happiness and it has to be destroyed."

"Neflite, you are hurting. Imagine how Molly will feel if and when she's told that she lost the baby. A mother losing a child is basically losing part of herself. No matter if the child had been born yet or not."

Neflite turned away from Serena, covering his face with his hands. They sat on the bench in the uncomfortable silence until someone came up from behind.

For the time being Neflite ignored him either because he didn't see him there or he just didn't care. Serena on the other hand saw his approach. She looked up to see it was Alan still posing like he was in costume, though he was actually in his true form. She stood and walked towards him.

"How is he?" Alan whispered.

Serena shook her head, "Not good. It's going to take a lot to convince him to stay here."

"I have news about Molly," he said.

The mention of Molly made Neflite look up towards the alien. He stood up and walked to the alien. "What about Molly?" he said coldly.

"She's out of surgery and in recovery. The doctor insists in speaking with you."

Without a word, Neflite quickly stood up, walked past the alien and the Princess and rushed into the hospital.

When Neflite reached the lobby where the scouts were at, there was a doctor waiting for him. Serena and Alan were not far behind.

"What's the news?" Neflite said to the doctor.

"Are you Neflite Stanton?"

"Yes."

The doctor could tell that Neflite only wanted news. "Your wife had suffered a real bad fall but she'll be ok."

Neflite breathed a sign of relief.

"However," the doctor continued. Everyone turned to the doctor, fearing for the worse. Neflite knew it was about the baby and he gave a horrified expression. "Molly had internal bleeding in the womb and the baby did not make it. I am sorry."

Neflite collapsed to his knees in shock. Everyone could hear the bones in his knees crack and he didn't even flinch. His fists were tightly clenched to the point that his knuckles went white and blood trickled down from his nails digging into his skin.

Serena was about to go near him but Darien stopped her. She looked up to her boyfriend with tears streaming down her face. Before she could utter a word, Darien pulled her close to him and held her there.

"I need to see her," Neflite whispered after several minutes.

With no words, the doctor turned to leave as Neflite stood back up and followed.

In the corner of the hospital, someone smiled in triumph. His dreams were soon going to come true. He disappeared before anyone noticed and reappeared in a room full people. In front of him a tall woman was sitting on a throne.

"What do you have to report?" the woman on the throne said without looking up.

"My queen," the man bowed. "I have excellent news. The plan was a success, Molly is no longer pregnant."

The queen laughed. Over in the corner a woman stood silently, crying. She never meant for this to happen. She just wanted her husband's fortune.

"You brought this on yourself, Jenna," the queen said turning to the woman. "If you weren't so greedy none of this would have ever happened. Rubeus!"

"Yes, my queen," Rubeus said as he entered the room.

"Take Mrs. Baker to her new room. She will be no longer returning to Earth."

"Yes." Rubeus walked towards Jenna and grabbed her arm. For the moment, Jenna complied. After Rubeus teleported with Jenna, Queen Beryl looked at her messenger.

"Now that the first part of my plan has been a success, it's now time for you to start the second part of the plan. Go to the hospital and give a little support to the scouts and become their friend."

"Yes, my queen," he said. He clenched his fists. Everyone clearly knew that Mongo didn't like his mission but he was the only one that the scouts never met. Mongo stood to his full height and vanished from the throne room.

Rubeus and Jenna appeared in a room that looked like a sitting room.

"Where are we?" Jenna asked as Rubeus released her. For the moment she forgot about Molly.

"We are in Malachite's old chambers. His room was the most feminine and no one wanted this room. So make yourself comfortable, you'll be here for a long time. Until Queen Beryl calls upon you again, you might as well rest and weep alone."

"What do you expect me to do, smile? Molly is the only child I never known. She's my daughter!"

"You should have thought of that before coming to Queen Beryl in the first place," Rubeus smirked. "Besides, Molly wasn't killed and she's only part of the plan."

"Oh yes. You want Sailor Venus. Well I hope she comes up a way to destroy you and marry Malachite!"

Rubeus was suddenly angered. He swung his hand and slapped Jenna in the face. She fell to the floor; a little distance away from were she had been standing. She touched her cheek and already could feel a bruise.

"If you ever say something like that again, you'll get more than a slap. That's not a threat, that's a promise. By morning that bruise will be gone."

Before Jenna had the chance to look up at Rubeus, he was gone. After several minutes she decided to take a look around her new room. There didn't seem to be a door out of the room since there was only one door and that led to the bedroom.

Jenna tried to stand up but her knees wouldn't give her strength. She collapsed back to the floor and wept and eventually fell asleep. When she awoke, she was no longer on the floor but in a large elaborate bed with black velvet curtains surrounding all the way around. She went to get up but someone gently touched her arm. Jenna gasped and turned to see who it was.

There standing beside the bed was a young woman. She was a cross of a human and a peacock. She looked human except for her skin. The skin was light green and her outfit a strapless purple bodysuit. Her legs were also green. In spite of this, she was very beautiful.

"Don't be alarmed. I'm terribly sorry for disturbing you."

"Who are you?" Jenna said nervously.

"My name is Jersa. I used to be human during the Silver Millennium but when Queen Beryl captured me, during the attack on the Moon, she turned me into a youma. Lord Malachite was my master. Now you are my master. I watched Rubeus slap you and when you fell asleep, I brought you in here."

"He can slap hard," Jenna said. She stood from the bed and walked over to a floor length mirror. She went to inspect the bruise but it was gone. She turned back to Jesra in shock.

Like Rubeus said, the bruise would heal by morning."

"For a youma, you are quite nice and smart," Jenna said.

"That's my human blood. Most of the creatures here are creations by Queen Beryl. There are only ten youma that are half human."

"Were you all from the Moon Kingdom?"

"No. Only myself and one other were from the Moon Kingdom," Jesra said. "I should warn you now. The longer you're in the Negaverse the more power your body will absorb."

"You mean I'm becoming evil? I don't want to be evil!" Jenna covered her face with her hands.

"I'm sorry, but what you did to your husband and your so-called daughter was evil. You came to the Negaverse to get rid of him when he found out the truth about Molly, then you asked for help to get rid of her when you found out about the money she inherited from him."

"I didn't expect the queen to do what she did. I just wanted to scare Molly."

"That is where you went wrong. No mother should try and scare her daughter no matter what it's for."

"I was never like this before I was pregnant with my child who died during childbirth," Jenna said.

Jersa looked at Jenna with a soft smile. "I can try and find out why you did what did."

"What do you mean?"

"A few times throughout the centuries, Queen Beryl has done something to people to make them act differently. I can see if she did that to you and maybe reverse the effects."

"Can you do that?"

"Of course. Like I said, you are my master now. When Malachite was my master I was his personal messenger. I did missions in secret to find information on people."

Jena looked to Jersa and nodded. She didn't know what else to say. Jersa took the silent permission and disappeared to do her task.

Mongo reappeared in a deserted stairwell beside the door to the floor that the scouts were on. He quickly changed his uniform to human street clothes and walked through the door. He was still quite angered at his mission but he knew not to disobey his queen. It didn't take him long to find the scouts.

For a while, he waited and listened to the scouts talk. He knew they wouldn't talk about being Sailor Scouts. As he watched he noticed there was a missing scout, Mina. Her lover was there but she wasn't.

"Poor Molly," Mongo heard Serena say.

"This is terrible," Anne said. "I hope she'll be okay."

"Anne," Alan said. He placed a hand on his alien companion. They were both in human form. "She'll have all of us to help her through this."

"Where did Mina go?" Lita asked.

"She went for a walk," Malachite answered. "This accident has reminded her of when our son died in the plane crash last year."

Plane crash! Mongo thought. He couldn't believe it. He had heard that Mina had son who died but didn't know how he died. I was to die in a plane crash but Queen Beryl saved me. Is this what I am to find out?

Mongo moved away from his position and back into the stairwell. He concentrated on his powers to locate Mina. It was tricky locating her without drawing the scouts' attention to his Negaenergy. It didn't take too long to locate her, and he teleported to a room on the floor she was on.

Within seconds, he found her staring in the room of the newborn babies. He carefully walked over to her.

"Hello," he said.

"Huh?" Mina turned to the sound. There standing beside her a young good-looking man. He was wearing black jeans and a white t-shirt. His long hair was in a loose ponytail. "Oh, sorry. I didn't see you come up."

"Are you alright?" Mongo asked.

"Yes...actually no. A friend of mine is here in the hospital and she just lost her baby."

"Oh, that's too bad." Too bad for you but excellent for the queen. "Shouldn't you be with her family right now?"

"It's just..." Mina turned away from the man. "Sorry. I'm not wanting to be rude but since I don't know you, I don't want to talk about it."

Mongo's anger arose towards the woman standing in front of him. He wasn't used to not getting the exact information that he wanted to know. As Mina's back was turned, Mongo had to get himself under control before he ruined his mission and failed the queen.

After a few minutes, Mongo remembered seeing people and how they introduced themselves. "I understand. My name is..." he thought for a moment for a quick name, "Michael."

Mina turned back to Mongo. "Hello, Michael. I'm Mina."

"Friend of Neflite Stanton?" he asked.

"Yes. I'm a real close friend. It's his wife who lost the baby," she said. "If you will excuse me, I should get back to my friends. My boyfriend will probably be worried about me. Maybe I'll see you later."

Mina didn't stay long enough to hear an answer. Mongo watched as Mina walked towards the elevator. "Oh, you can count on seeing me later, Sailor Venus," he said to himself.

After Mina left the hallway, he walked back to the room he came from and pondered how to approach the scouts and become their friend. He was still angry about his mission but was quite intrigued about Mina's past.
