Chapter 1 - Old Acquaintances

* * * * * * * *

The beautiful sunlight came through the open window, along with a gentle fall breeze, waking the young woman from her wonderful dream. She had dreamt of her honeymoon, three months previous. Lying beside her was her beloved husband, who had died for her and came back to life. There was no way she was going to pass him up for anything in the world.

As she lay, allowing herself to fully wake up without disturbing her husband, she remembered her dream. On their honeymoon, they had gone to Italy and then to Egypt. It was the first time ever that she had been out of Japan. Her father had once traveled to Italy and he had brought her back pictures. And she vowed that one-day, she would go.

When Neflite was working for the Negaverse, he had created a private jet and manipulated people into thinking that the jet had always been in the airport. He had used the jet for his and Molly's travels. They had a wonderful time, exploring Venice and then going to Rome. During their trip to Rome, they remembered being in Rome in their past, one thousand years ago. They had recognized some of the old buildings that had been standing for more than a thousand years as the same buildings they saw when they lived in the Silver Millennium.

After they were done exploring Italy, they went to Egypt and saw some ancient buildings and abandoned cities. They made sure not to go to any tombs, afraid of the ancient curses that could still exist today. Molly Stanton was quite fascinated at the ancient world of Egypt.

Molly didn't realize that Neflite awoke. He lightly shook her to bring her out of her daydreams.

"It's time to wake up, Molly," he said.

"I'm awake. I've just been thinking about my dream."

"Thinking about our honeymoon," Neflite chuckled. "Come on, breakfast will be ready soon. And by the time we get downstairs, it will be ready. You how the cook is."

Before they had gone on their honeymoon, they had hired a butler, a cook and some maids to help keep the house clean. It was too big of a house for one person to clean, and they weren't the only ones in the mansion. The Tsukino's, Serena's parents and brother, also lived with them.

The scouts would meet at Neflite's mansion almost every day, to find out if any of them had noticed any Negaverse activity. Everyone knew that Queen Beryl, ruler of the Negaverse, was going to strike again. On a few occasions, a youma tried to strike at some humans, but the Sailor Scouts always seemed to manage very well. The ex-generals knew that Queen Beryl was going to strike but it was the waiting that was killing everyone. To relieve the stress, sometimes the scouts would come over just to have fun in the yard. Of course, Neflite didn't mind at all. He enjoyed it, and so did Molly. She was able to get reacquainted with her best friend.

"Yeah, I know." Molly rolled over and stood up from the bed, retrieving her housecoat. She was already four months pregnant. Once she was ready to head downstairs, Neflite put on his robe and followed her downstairs. When they entered the dinning room, the Tsukinos were already there, waiting for them.

"Good Morning," Mrs. Tsukino said.

"Good Morning," Molly said. "What's for breakfast today?"

"Pancakes," Sammy said. "I love pancakes."

"That's a breakfast I haven't had in a long time," Molly said. "Neflite, have you ever had pancakes?"

"I think I did once, years ago, back during the Silver Millennium," Neflite said. "But I can't remember if it had another name back then or not."

"And Serena was back in that time?" Mr. Tsukino asked. He already knew the answer but being the father that he was, he didn't want to believe it.

"Yes, Kenji. She was. She was a very graceful princess. Though I do believe she was clumsy and always kept asking questions when she was young," Neflite said. "But back in those days, a girl was considered a woman by the age of thirteen."

"I understand that," Kenji said. "I just have a hard time believing Serena was - is, I mean, ruler of the universe."

"Yeah, sometimes it's hard for me understand it too," Molly said. "Let's eat, I'm hungry."

"And you're eating for two," Neflite added.

In the far distance of space, sitting on a tree limb, was a young woman. Not too far from her was her companion and lover. Each one was remembering the time they lived in Tokyo and their heroines, the Sailor Scouts. When they lived on Earth, they didn't know much about love until they met the Sailor Scouts.

Alan, an alien with long blue hair and Anne, who had long pink hair, were traveling through space with their fully-grown tree, which was no longer called the 'Doom Tree' but now the Tree of Life. They were trying to find a suitable planet to call their own, but hadn't been successful.

"Alan, I've been wondering how the Sailor Scouts have been doing," Anne said. "It's been over three years since we were on Earth, and we've heard rumors that there are more scouts now. I'd like to know where those rumors are coming from."

Alan hovered a few feet away from Anne. "I've been wondering the same thing. I've been trying to see if the information has been coming from the tree and if it is now ready to speak to us. Since we are part of the tree, it could be sending us messages in our sleep."

"There must be away to contact the tree," Anne said. "Unless it thinks were not ready to hear it."

"On the contrary, my children." Both aliens gasped. "You have been more than ready to hear me for a while. I have just been postponing the moment when I spoke to you until I had what I needed. The Sailor Scouts are in grave danger and they could use your help."

"What kind of danger?" Alan asked, getting over the shock of hearing the tree at last.

"The ruler of the Negaverse has been revived. She's been alive for about a year now. Queen Beryl has almost found a way to destroy the Sailor Scouts."

"How can she be alive? Besides, the scouts know their future," Anne said. "You have sent us messages that the scouts live a thousand years from now."

"Yes, that is correct that the scouts live for a long time to come, but Sailor Galaxia, the last villain to attack the scouts, brought back everyone the scouts ever fought. Combined, they are now called the 'Negaverse'."

"How can we help?" Alan asked.

"Go back to Earth and use your powers against the Negaverse. You still have your darkness powers."

"Queen Beryl was the one who gave us the dark power," Anne said. "She would know how to block us."

"Not if you used a surprise attack," the tree explained.

"But how do we turn ourselves around and head back to Earth? We are three years from Earth," Alan said.

"You may be three years away from Earth, but with your thoughts combined you can be back in Earth's orbit in days," the tree said.

"Alan, let's do it. The Scouts could use our help, anyway. Besides, you know how much we actually miss Earth," Anne said. Anne now stood beside Alan.

Alan turned to Alan. With a silent nod from Anne, the two aliens linked both their hands together. They both thought of Earth. Moments after the planet came into view in their minds, the tree started to head in the direction of Earth.

"It's working Alan," Anne said.

Far down in the depths of the Negaverse, in the training chamber, the evil queen watched in frustrated anger as her youngest minion was practicing. She had a mission for him to prepare for, but she had to wait for him to finish his training so he could begin his mission.

Mongo was concentrating on targeting his attacks, unaware of the queen's presence. He was going to fire a few more lighting bolts when he noticed the presence of a tall woman out of the corner of his eye. He stood straight and tall, allowing her to know that he was aware of her presence without letting her know that she had startled him.

"To what do I owe the pleasure of your presence my queen?" he said. He turned to his queen and bowed slightly.

"Mongo," she said. "I've been informed that your training is almost complete."

"Yes, your highness," he agreed. "I feel ready to fight the traitors and those scouts. They've embarrassed you enough. But Sapphire thinks I need a little more time to train."

"I must agree. You must be better than anyone else that has been up against those damn scouts."

"Once I'm ready, those scouts are in for a surprise, especially that bitch, Sailor Venus."

"Once Sapphire indicates that you are ready, you'll receive your first mission."

"Is the assignment part of your revenge?"

"Yes," she snapped. "Your mission is to become friends with them. Sailor Venus will be your first friend. While with the scouts, you will observe them to find their weakness. When Venus has your trust, you'll kidnap her and the others one by one, so not to cause suspicions." Beryl laughed, knowing that Mongo would hate the mission.

Mongo wanted to protest but decided against it. He stood there, clenching his fists, waiting for the tall woman to stop laughing. When she finally stopped, she noticed that Mongo was still angry. He looked like Malachite when he was angry.

"A word of caution, one of them has mental abilities. You will also find out who that is." As fast as the queen had appeared, she was gone, leaving Mongo to his anger.

After the queen left, Sapphire entered. "How's it going?"

"Just peachy," Mongo growled. He turned on his heel ready to attack the weak youma who was his practice target. "The queen has just informed me of my first assignment when training is over."

"That's good. What is it?"

"It isn't good. She wants me to become buddies with the Sailor Scouts, especially Venus. I'm to observe their life and find out who has the mental abilities. When the time is right, I'm to bring the scouts here one by one, starting with Venus."

"That doesn't sound so bad. But why Venus?"

"Who knows? But I get the distinct feeling she knows something about that blond that no one else knows and I'm to find out what it is. I may have to do this but that doesn't mean I have to like it."

"No one is saying you have to like it, even though most of us would jump at the chance. But we've all failed against them. And they've never seen you before. It would make the queen's revenge sweeter."

* * * * * * * *

Three of the Sailor Scouts, Lita, Hotaru and Trista were on triple dates with the Starlights. They went to an American family-owned restaurant called Orchandle. The restaurant had a nineteenth-century American theme; even the waitresses wore nineteenth-century style clothes. There was a salad and desert bar over against one wall. In the center of the restaurant was a round fountain.

"Do you guys know, we should stop having so many triple dates," Yaten said. The six scouts were sitting at a round table.

"Oh, la, la," Seiya joked, laughing. Taiki and Lita laughed too.

"Stop that, Seiya," Trista hissed, slapping Seiya's arm.

"What was that for?" he asked.

"Hotaru is shy enough as it is. She doesn't need any more embarrassment from you," Trista said.

"Trista's right," Lita said soberly. "Not only is Hotaru shy, but she is still quite weak. But she has the most destructive power of all the scouts."

"I almost destroyed the city when Sailor Moon helped me destroy Phorah90 a couple years ago," Hotaru said.

"Let's change the subject," Taiki said. He picked up a menu that was in front of him and scanned it. It was the third time he had looked over the menu. "Who would like what?"

"What's the special?" Lita asked.

"It's...Tuesday...Let's see. Here we are. Ham, mashed potatoes and for vegetables peas and corn. Plus the all-you-can-eat salad and desert buffet."

"Well, it looks like you just ordered for us," Trista said.

"Thanks," Taiki said sarcastically. "I guess now we have to find a waitress."

It took a minute to find a waitress. When she came over, there was a huge crash from the opposite side of the room. Everyone turned towards the sound. A young waitress was having trouble with a customer.

From the looks of things, the customer was arguing with his waitress. Suddenly he flipped his table, smashing everything that was on it. The waitress fell to the floor and screamed.

"Oh, no," the scouts' waitress said.

"What's wrong?" Hotaru asked.

"Well, it's no secret. They are married and he thinks he can control her. She's afraid to go to the police," the waitress said nervously.

"Is she being abused?" Trista asked.

"Sexually and physically."

"Well, it's ending right now," Seiya growled. He stood, as did his brothers, ready to stop the angry man.

"Please don't," the waitress insisted. "You'll make things worse."

"No man has the right to abuse women," Taiki said.

The waitress started to protest again but Lita came up behind her and placed a gentle hand on the waitress's shoulder. The Starlights walked over to the disturbing scene. "It's ok," Lita said to the waitress. "They can handle it."

As the Starlights neared, they could hear what was being said. The Starlights had been fighting together long enough that they didn't have to discuss a plan. When they saw the situation, each of them immediately knew what the others would want to do. Quickly, Taiki went to the left side, Yaten to the right and Seiya to the middle.

"You will listen, woman!" the man growled. He stood, revealing an expensive-looking business suit in a shade of gray that went perfectly with his green eyes and light brown hair. He looked to be in his late twenties.

"Please," the scared waitress said. "We're in a restaurant." She took a step back.

"I don't give a damn!" he hissed. He raised his hand to slap her. Before his hand could move, something grabbed his wrist. He turned his head to see who had stopped him.

The woman closed her eyes in fear, ready for the sting of the slap. She wondered why his hand didn't hit her. She slowly opened her eyes to see three men with long hair in ponytails. The tallest man, who had brown hair, had a strong hold on her attacker.

"Who do you think you are?" the man hissed. "This is none of your business!"

"I make it my business when a beautiful woman is being assaulted," Taiki growled. "As do my brothers."

The man turned to see his wife being comforted by a shorter man with long grayish hair and a taller man with long black hair.

"Get the hell away from wife!" the man commanded.

"Do you know abuse is wrong?" Seiya sneered, ignoring the command.

"Interrupting is also wrong!"

"Not as wrong as abuse. Besides, abuse is illegal," Yaten said. "Lita, Hotaru and Trista. Can you girls take this lady to the ladies room and get her cleaned up?" The three girls came over in an instant.

"Yaten," Hotaru said. "This is a restaurant. Please try to refrain from hospitalizing him." Hotaru left with the others.

"Yaten? What kind of a name is that?" the man demanded.

"The name of my brother," Taiki hissed. "He is Seiya and I'm Taiki. We are known as the Starlights."

"The singing Starlights?"

"Give the man a prize," Yaten mocked.

"We'll give you two minutes to calm yourself and if you don't, we'll do it for you," suggested Seiya.

"Someone please call the police?" Yaten asked. He looked over to his table to see that their waitress was still there. He also noticed that there were a few other customers who were watching.

The man also looked at the waitress. At first she hesitated but then went to comply.

"Don't try it, Megan. You'll regret it," he barked. She took a step back.

"You're in no position to give orders," Seiya said. "Megan, go and call the police. This idiot won't hurt you."

"I'm not an idiot!" the man yelled.

"Could have fooled me," Yaten said. "So what do we call you?"

"James," the man yelled again but this time in pain. Taiki had snapped his arm down.

* * * * * * * *

In the ladies' room, the scouts were getting the young woman cleaned up. The frightened woman had introduced herself as Kim.

"Please, you shouldn't have involved yourself," Kim pleaded softly when she was calmed. You'll only make things worse."

"Listen," Lita said. "We don't take kindly to people abusing other people. A friend of ours was abused and we won't stand for it."

"Why are you with this man?" Hotaru asked.

"My marriage was arranged by my father. Last night was our first anniversary and I refused to sleep with him. I went over to Megan's before he had a chance to hit me."

"Yaten just asked a waitress to phone the police," Trista announced. She was standing by the door watching the guys.

"No!" Kim jumped. "I'll lose everything. I'm pregnant."

The three scouts looked at Kim in shock.

"Kim," Lita said, recovering quickly. "I lost my parents when I was young. I believed I lost everything until I met these two and the men we're with."

"I'm 3 months pregnant and James doesn't care!"

"I'd rather be a single parent than to raise my child in an abusive home," Hotaru said.

"Hotaru's right," Trista said. "It would be better for you to get away from him. If there are any problems with social services, go to a lawyer or contact us. If you stay with that man you'll lose your child, either to a miscarriage or to social services when they put the baby in a foster home."

"If you don't press charges, we will," Lita said.

"I do want out of this marriage," Kim said. She stood with Lita's help. "All right. I'll do it. Thank you. You are nice people. But I don't have enough money to afford a lawyer."

"We'll help you," Lita smiled. "We are friends with Neflite Stanton."

"You mean the millionaire?" The girls nodded. "He just got married."

"We were the bridesmaids," Hotaru said.

"Wow!"

"Let's head out and see how the guys are doing," Trista said.

With a nod from Kim, the four girls exited out of the ladies room. In the main room, James was squirming out of Taiki's grasp. When he was free, he grabbed Taiki and threw him against the other two Starlights. The three men tumbled to the floor.

Lita decided to take action. She went up to James.

"No one holds me back!" James shouted.

"And no one pushes my friends around!" Lita snapped.

"What are you going to do?" James challenged Lita. "You're just a girl!"

James swung his fist, but Lita easily dodged it by ducking under his arm. Grasping his other arm from behind, Lita swung her leg, knocking his legs out from under him. He fell to the floor with her above him. She used the leg she kicked him with to brace herself on his back.

"Didn't think women could fight, did you," Lita snarled. "Well, think again. Push my buttons any further and you won't see the police arrive. You'll be unconscious from my fist connecting with your head. And believe when I make my threats, I honor them. If this wasn't a public place, I'd rearrange your face and then I'd give you a first-hand idea of how it feels to be physically abused like your pregnant wife!"

"What?" James choked out.

"You mean you didn't know," Trista said coming to up them.

"Of course he wouldn't know. Why would he?" Kim said becoming brave. "He's too busy thinking about himself to care about anyone else."

The Starlights stood back up and assured the rest of the customers that everything was all right. Yaten went outside and waited for the police. When the police arrived, he came back in with the police on his heels.

"Good," Lita said, finally getting off of James. "The sooner you get this thing out of here, the sooner my friends and I can have dinner."

"You still want to eat here?" Kim asked.

"We came to a good restaurant for a reason," Taiki said.

It took a few minutes for the police to place James under arrest and interview everyone. With encouragement from the scouts and the Starlights Kim decided to press charges. When the police were gone, the scouts went back to their table and ordered dinner.

* * * * * * * *

The two aliens traveled through space for a long time before they came to Earth's solar system. Alan and Anne learned everything they could about the reviving of Beryl and the scouts' new powers on their way to Earth.

"Anne, we are approaching Earth," Alan announced.

"I believe," Anne said, "I've found away to patch into the scouts' communicators. But once we reach the atmosphere, communications will go dead." A few moments later with the Tree of Life's help, Anne found the frequency.

"Something's coming through," Anne said.

"Hello," they suddenly heard a female voice say over the frequency.

"That's Serena," Alan said excitedly.

"Serena, it's Anne and Alan," Anne said.

"Anne and Alan!" Serena gasped.

"We're back with the Tree of Life, formerly called the Doom Tree. We'll be landing soon at your location," Anne said. The transmission will end when enter atmosphere."

* * * * * * * *

Serena and Darien were over visiting Molly for the evening. It was really the first time Molly and Serena had any quality time together in a long time. They were all sitting in the living room when suddenly Serena's communicator started beeping.

Serena picked up her communicator. "Hello," she said.

"Serena, it's Anne and Alan," a female voice said.

"Anne and Alan!" Serena gasped.

"We're back with the Tree of Life, formerly called the Doom Tree. We'll be landing soon at your location," Anne said. "The transmission will end when we enter the atmosphere." Suddenly the communicator went dead.

Serena looked up her boyfriend when more noise came through the communicator.

"Serena, we all heard," Raye's voice came through. "We're on our way." Then the communicator was dead again.

"I'm assuming," Neflite said, "These are the two aliens you've mentioned fighting after Beryl was defeated."

"I remember Alan and Anne. Anne was a classmate and Alan was a year ahead," Molly said. Serena, still in shock, could only nod. She never expected to see the aliens again. She looked over to her friend, sitting across from her who shrugged. She kept asking herself, why were the aliens back?
