Ten Things I Like About the DiC Dub

(so sue me) (well, actually, don't ^.^;;)

1. The music. Way cooler and less cheesy than the Japanese version. I especially like the "evil" theme played way low with the tinkly thing going on above it, and the frequent use of variations on the Sailor Moon theme. Ties the whole thing together a lot better.

2. Serena's and Luna's voices. Those squeaky little voices in the Japanese version bug the heck out of me.

3. "I'm gonna get you, Cape-Boy!"

4. I prefer Nephrite's death scene in the DiC. "Don't forget me... I just want you to know you're in my heart" is a much better exit line than "I'm glad I met you." Also, Molly sounds less like a disappointed little kid who won't get her chocolate parfait and more like a heartbroken young woman who's lost someone she loves.

5. I adore the name "Molly."

6. The jokes are funnier. I'm sure the Japanese version has some funny lines, but they kind of lose something in the fansub translations.

7. Okay, I'm strange - I get a kick out of "Sailor Moon Says."

8. I like Molly's accent. If I were from Brooklyn or wherever people talk like that, I'd be very offended at all the Molly's-accent-bashing that goes on. I think it's cute. And if you have a hard time believing that a girl living in Japan would have an accent like that, try the explanation I offer in "Sanctuary" - it's a working-class accent. Molly's parents worked their way out of one of the poorer areas of Tokyo to start a successful jewelry store. Still have a hard time with it? Think about this - why do none of these people who supposedly live in Japan look Japanese? So why get worked up over an accent?

9. When Nephrite makes the Black Crystal and says of the Silver Crystal, "I will be... its master," I love that low, growly voice. Gives me goosebumps every time.

10. "I shall right wrongs and triumph over evil - and that means you!"
